Legal Skills Training - Criminal Attend real live criminal trials and learn valuable new skills. 1 day training at a Crown Court + home study in own time.
No previous qualifications or legal experience required.
The legal skills training provided in this course covers Criminal Court Case matters and automatically awards a Certificate of Attendance on completion - there is no test or exam. However, as with our Free Legal Skills course - Civil, a Certificate of Pass can be awarded and when combined with a civil pass becomes a recognised qualification. The training starts off with a day's training at a Crown Court (11am - 2.30pm) and is followed by further training as a home study module. Please note: that the home study module is flexible and can be completed over days or weeks according to ones own personal circumstances and preferences, e.g. 1 day per week for 4 weeks, or some other configuration that is suitable. Also, no previous knowledge of law or experience is required to enrol on this course.
The training course, which is entirely practical, will teach various skills which are required to carry out a variety of solicitor's instructions in both criminal and civil settings. Some of the skills learned are skills utilized by barristers and advocacy solicitors during court trials and hearings e.g. Targeted Listening, Content Analysis, Content Elimination, Legal based speed writing.
Unlike the training session in our Civil High Court training programme much of the training at the Crown Court (criminal court) will be spent actually inside live criminal trials. For example, if you were instructed to go to court to take hand written notes of a trial (sorry, no shorthand or tape recordings allowed) how do you take accurate legal notes and at the same time keep up with what is being asked and answered by the barrister, the Judge and the witnesses (especially when the questions and answers are long ones)?
At times amusing situations will be covered in this training course. For example imagine you have been sent to assist the barrister during a criminal trial and in the middle of your note taking your client (who is in the dock) manages to get your attention and indicates that he wants to speak to you, what should/could you do?
As in the civil court training programme having these legal skills, (which are transferable skills) on your CV will impress most prospective employers and could significantly influence an employer to offer you the job you are applying for. This has been the case even when the job being applied for was nothing to do with the legal field.
In addition successfully passing this course will also make you eligible to apply to the school for a job reference - see example CV.
The fee for the Criminal Court Case training course is as follows:-
Employed persons £99 (part time +) includes a Certificate of Attendance.
Students £50 (ID required) includes a Certificate of Attendance.
Unemployed £50 (proof required) includes a Certificate of Attendance. As with the civil court training course there is a Certificate of Attendance on completion, and for those wanting a certificate of pass there is a marking fee of £40 reduced to £20 if paid for on the same day.
