However, for those who may want to do volunteer work under our Work Placement / Work Experience programme and who do not have relevant legal experience, and are therefore not automatically eligible; or for those who may want to make use of our optional extra Job Reference facility, a Certificate of Competency / Pass is a requirement. It should be noted that students with a Certificate of Competency / Pass can put the School on their CV as a reference.  click here

On request by a prospective employer the school will provide an academic/competency reference. To see an example.  click here

Those who hold the above certificate of competency/pass qualify to join our work placement/experience programme even if they do not have any previous legal experience. For more information click here

Remember that requesting a certificate of competency / pass is optional. However, if requested it will require that a student has their answers to the 24 questions contained in the training material marked. This option is available for a £20.00 admin fee if it is paid for on or before the training day at the High Court. However, if paid for after the training day at the High Court the admin fee is £30.00 (if unemployed or a student) or £40.00 (if employed).

The 1 off admin fee covers the administration involved in marking, forwarding an additional certificate of competency / pass, work placement / work experience and providing when requested an academic/competency reference.
