An Introduction to Business & Accounts

Course Purpose

Business Studies, a body of knowledge that affects many aspects of the modern world. There are different areas of Business Studies requiring different skills and talents e.g. sole trader, partnerships or directorships.

Then there is Accounts, an exact and some times complex area of knowledge that affects all facets of business and is an essential component of successful business. For those thinking of working for themselves a good basic understanding of business and accounts is essential.

For those thinking about taking up a degree course in either of these disciplines, this introduction to Business Studies and Accounts course will enable a person to better determine whether Business Studies or Accounts suits his/her abilities and temperament without first committing precious resources of both time and money to a long and hard study programme. A person could find that he or she has wasted one or two years studying a subject that they are not really suited to.

On the other hand, taking and successfully completing this Introductory Course could give you the confidence and motivation to go beyond the basic levels, with the conviction that this field of study is right for you. A certificate is awarded on completion.

Course Contents

In addition to learning the basics about business you will learn about the basics of business law, the basics of business marketing and the basics of business accounting.

In the second part, accounts in business, you will specifically learn how to prepare a Balance Sheet, how to prepare an end of year set of Trading Accounts and how to prepare a Profit & Loss Statement, essential to any business and especially if you want to work for yourself.

The third part of this course provides you with some legal awareness and acumen. Again this can be very helpful if you are going to work for yourself in business. This part is practical and gives a person an awareness of the need to be aware of legal issues and how some times one may need to act in a legal environment.
